Principles for the selection of polysulfide gold-bearing ores

Simple polysulfide containing gold ore or gold - pyrite ore. In general, the mineral composition of this ore is simple, the content of pyrite is high, and the close relationship between gold and pyrite is the basic feature of the ore. In addition to pyrite ores, but also it may contain small amounts of brass ore, pyrrhotite, galena and other metallic minerals. The gangue minerals are mainly quartz and calcite . The pyrite content is 20% to 45%. It accounts for more than 90% of the total metal minerals. The principle of gold-pyrite ore processing is to separate the sulfide from the gangue and use cyanide to leach the flotation concentrate. Therefore, flotation is often used as part of the joint process of the metallurgical process. Depending on the specific ore, there are several options as shown in Figure 1.

Process I is characterized by direct calcination of ore. Then cyanide treatment. This process is suitable for the production of small-scale, high-grade mines. For example, the foreign Connemara-Gorde-Ma Yingzi gold processing plant processes a typical sulfur-gold ore with a treatment capacity of 200t and a gold grade of 10g/t. All ore is first calcined. The ore after melting enters the percolation leaching tank. Lime is added directly to the ore. The first cyanidation time is 12h. The total time of the percolation cycle was 10 days. The gold recovery rate is 90%, the NaCN consumption is 0.5 kg/t, and the lime consumption is 0.9 kg/t.

The characteristic of the process III is that the pyrite concentrate is subjected to roasting to remove arsenic, antimony and the like before entering the cyanidation operation, thereby improving the leaching effect. Alternatively, the flotation concentrate is first calcined to produce acid, and then the gold is recovered from the calcine by cyanidation.
Process IV is suitable for treating ore which contains both fine gold which is encapsulated in the sulfide and gold which is associated with the non-sulfide.
The cyanidation of flotation and flotation concentrates on gold-containing sulphides is a common feature of the above process. Flotation operations must first ensure that gold is recycled to the gold concentrate as much as possible.
